Shout Outs!

Hello, students! Today, I want to make shout outs for this week:)

I picked three blogs that stand out from elementary classes. Take a look at your friends' blogs-they are great, indeed!

Take a look at William's blog.
He's already posted five posts, including extra assignments! I especially found the TED video  he posted interesting. Adding pictures and videos all the time, he is making his blog interesting:) It is wonderful that he has already done two extra assignments!

Also take a look at Uzin's blog.
She not only posted her wonderful writing assignments but also posted her first history presentation script, which I found brilliant:) Just like William, she also added pictures that drew my attention. So please take a look at her blog!

I also found Hojune's blog very attractive as well.
He's already wrote several posts with interesting topics like iPhone, story of general and snake head, potato chips, etc. Interesting topics, great writings and beautiful choice of pictures and videos:) It is great to see you guys writing something more than what you have to do.

Take a look at these three blogs, and see how awesome your friends have done with their blogs:) Keep up the good work, guys!

How to Write an Ode

Hi guys:) I saw that you guys had an ode as your second assignment. I actually found some useful tips to write an ode, so I want to share it with you guys:) Read it if your are interested in it, and try to apply this to your writing when you are writing or revising your ode. Hope to see a lot of your works:)

How to Write an Ode Poem About a Teddy Bear

Written by philippa jones | Translated by ehow contributor

An ode is a type of poem that praises an object, person or place. Your teddy bear is strong subject for a poem, because of the sentimental feelings it evokes that can be conveyed this way. If you have not written an ode before, you can easily get started by writing a short ode to your teddy bear using simple ideas and phrases.

Express how much you cherish your teddy bear by writing an ode.

Instructions

  1. Find a quiet space where you feel relaxed to allow your creative energy to flow. Have your teddy bear with you for inspiration.
  2. Jot down ideas that you want to include in the ode. Write a list of feelings or sentiments you have about the teddy bear, as well as some descriptive words. Choose your words selectively, avoiding generic terms such as "nice" or "cuddly."
  3. Brainstorm short sentences or phrases that can be used in the ode. Each one should describe your teddy or explain its meaning to you. The ode should show your adoration for it, so demonstrate why you feel that way. For example, you could tell how you came to own the bear or why its name is special.
  4. Begin putting the sentences and phrases together in order. Link together each of the key ideas you considered in Step 2. Aim to have ten lines to complete your ode.
  5. Put your ideas into a coherent order. Focus the reader's attention by using a bold idea to begin with -- such as your fondest memory of your teddy bear, a description of a time when you lost it or a memory of the moment it was given to you.
  6. Review your ode. Be critical and avoid repeating the same themes or similar words. If you are struggling, use a thesaurus to look up new words and experiment with how you structured your sentences.
  7. Read over the final line, and make sure it finishes the ode in a positive way.The ode explains why you love your teddy bear, so use this key message to close it.
  8. Rewrite the ode in your finest handwriting, and add an illustration to enhance the meaning of the poem.

Three Things about Me

Hi guys:) Welcome to GLPS writing class! I am Jiyoung, one of your four writing TAs, and I'll be helping you guys for next two weeks. Please never be afraid to ask a question. I'm really looking forward to helping you guys. Hope to have fun with you:)

Now, I will start introducing myself. I will tell you three things about myself, and one of them will be a lie. Guess what it is!

1. I am the chief of the school cheerleading team.

In KMLA, we have a cheerleading team called Kandles, and I am the chief of the team. I participate in many club activities, but this is the one that I am most devoted to lately. We used not to be very active last year, but this year we are very active-we did a number of performances and we also took part in a contest and won the second place! Isn't it wonderful? What kind of club activity do you guys enjoy?

2. I love horror movies.

I haven't watched that many horror movies, but I still like them very much. I like movies of other kinds as well, but I like watching horror movies when weather is hot and humid just like these days. I don't like the ones that try to scare the audience with cruel scenes. There are ones that have scary story lines and effects so that they scare the audience even without any bloody, cruel scenes. Those are the ones that I like. How about you? What kind of movie do you like?

3. I have a younger sister.

Do you guys have a brother or a sister? I have one, a younger sister. She is a year younger than me. When we were young, we used to fight at times. Still, we were very close, more like friends that like sisters. As we grew up and I started living in dormitory, we no longer fought, but instead, encouraged each other whenever we had a difficult time because of friends, school works, or conflict with our parents. We are the best supporter of each other. How about you? Do you have siblings? Are they your best supporter and friend?

These are three things about myself. Now I want to hear yours. What are they?
